On 11th, the press conference of DPL (DOTA2 Professional League) was held in Beijing. The director of sports information center of GASC (General Administration of Sport of China), Ding Dong, vice director Li Guihua, President of Perfect World Zhang Yunfan, CEO of MarsTV attended the conference.
DPL is an individual esports event directed by GASC sports information center, with official cooperator Perfect World and organizer MarsTV. In order to complete the growth of players, integrate the tournaments in the eco-system of DOTA2 in China, the center cooperates with MarsTV to build up DPL approved by authority and lead the roads for grassroots players and pro-gamers by holding DOTA2 leagues of tiers.
At the conference, people reviewed videos of the tournaments organized or supported by MarsTV: MDL, DAC, TI4 and TI4 China Qualifiers, the Frankfurt Major. Later, the vice director of sport information center introduced the progresses and developments Chinese esports achieved these years and illustrated the latest policy on esports for the guests. And the end of her speech, Ms.Li announced DPL.
Tang Hua, the director of esports department of the center brought us with excited news—DPL 2016 would introduce players sign up system. By establishing registration and score system, GASC wants to set principles for domestic tournaments and protect the rights of players. The action will also avoid the over commercial operations, providing wider room for esports.
The official cooperator of DPL, Perfect World sent it best wishes as well. The president Zhang Yunfan announced Perfect World to be the partner of DPL and would support it as the official operator of DOTA2 in China. Moreover, the special guest, the manager of esports club Ehome Tang ‘71’ Wenyi went onto the stage to answer some questions and reviewed the development of DOTA2 together with the host.
At last, CEO of MarsTV, Zhang Yu introduced the content of DPL. DPL will cover two seasons from May to July and October to December, including new players audition, point race, secondary league and professional league. DPL also provides players with high prize pool and sustainable system to optimize the eco-system of esports scene.
It is said DPL will start formally on 18th May. In total 22 teams will attend the league to compete in the first season.
