Film&TV IP: It’s impossible to copy the success of blockbusters
Interaction between film&TV and game is one of the most heating trend in domestic mobile game industry in 2015. Even though film&TV IPs in China were known as IP coating, games like Huaqiangu gradually displayed the power of interaction between film&TV and game.
Different from common cooperation between IP owners and game developers, IQiyi, IP owner of Huaqiangu and Skymoon, the developer launched deep cooperation--Huaqiangu Mobile’s development started when the game was in production and came out almost the same time. This strategy makes the most of IP value and market effect of interaction between film&TV and game. Meanwhile, iQiyi also the distributor and co-publisher of Huaqiangu Mobile, which means it actively participated in the marketing and publishing of the game.

Literature IP: users have good paying habits
Literature IPs can be divided into two types: traditional and internet. Traditional literature works have high reputation and more serious themes, so this type of IP should better be adapted into big games and operated in long term. While internet literature is born from internet, so it has younger audience and can win massive focus within a short time, that’s why it suits moderate and speedy spread mobile games. Youzu’s Sida Mengbu, Perfect World’s The Legend of Condor Hero(preorder), ChangYou’s Tianlong Babu and TheDream’s The QunXiaChuan cologne are all representative of games adaption of traditional literature IPs.
As many traditional literature IPs have been acquired by large game companies, smaller size ones turned to internet IPs. It is reported that in 2015 mobile games adapted from Internet literature IPs include Dazhuzai, Motianji, Legend of Xifei and Cangqiongbian.
Cangqiongbian, released on IOS in early July, topped App Store paid applications in China just in one week, ranked in top 10 of bestsellers and top 5 of mostly searched words of Baidu. It still remains on the top 50 bestsellers now. It is estimated that fans of TiancanTudou takes around 65% of all game players of Cangqiongbian. Fans effect is also enormous in Internet literature.
No matter which type of IP it is, if you want to produce a high quality game, make sure the core material and perspective you choose, and clearify what the fans want. A good adaption not only profits a lot, but also can earn more fame for the IP, and vice versa.
