”Night of Sony Fans”--Sony China 20th Anniversary Celebration, PSVR’s China Launching Remains Unknown

After the 1st Anniversary of PS4’s Chinese launching for one year the day before, on March 28th, “Night of Sony Fans” was happily held to celebrate Sony’s 20th anniversary entering China. 50 Sony fans were invited, and surprisingly Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai came to join the event.

Firstly, Sony China President Kurita Nobuki greeted the guests and expressed his gratitude for the support from fans in China. Mr. Nobuki wished that Sony will have a better development in China with the loyal fans. 2016 is the year of Sony China’s 20th birthday, and also Sony’s 70th anniversary. This “Night of Sony Fans” received over 4,000 applications from Sony fans, the best birthday gift for Sony. Consumer Sales & Mktg Co President Hiroshi Takahashi who will take the place of Kurita Nobuki since April 1st also made a short speech.

Later on, “Yifu” (nickname from Chinese fans, means uncle--husband of mother’s sister in Chinese ) Kazuo Hirai showed up, and soon surrounded by enthusiastic screams from fans.

Kazuo Hirai said his father and grandfather are all Sony fans, and he’s impacted a lot. SkySensor is his favorite Sony product in his early age when he spent all his pocket money saved in middle school years. And it’s still working today. After joining Sony, he hoped to let more people know Sony’s amazement. Meanwhile, he saw a guy using Olympus camera, and joked that he’ll regret and buy a Sony camera later.

Next came to Q&A. Here’re fans’ questions and Kazuo Hirai’s answers:

Q: What entertainment do you like in spare time?

A: My first job in Sony was in CBS, so I really love music. When I have some time to kill, I’d listen to music with my walkman. I also like photography, I often went to shoot some pictures when I was a student.

 

Q: What’s your dream, and has it come true?

A: Even now I have titles like CEO and president, I haven’t dreamed of becoming so when I joined Sony. May dream is simply deliver the amazement of Sony to the whole world. I should say that my dream has already come true.

 

Q: Anything “wow” you recently?

A: The most recent one is when I walked along the special pass for me and saw you enthusiastic Sony fans, that “wow”ed me. And before that, was once I went to a Sony store in Tokyo and saw a mother and her son watching Sony 4K TV in admiration. That really “wow”ed me.

 

Q: Do you know how do Sony fans in China call you?

A: yifu?

 

Q: Yes, for your name Kazuo “yifu”in Chinese has the same pronunciation with the Chinese person reference “yifu” (uncle)

A: I’m happy about that, no matter it is brother or uncle, for me that means you treat me like I’m your family member. I like you call me “yifu”.

 

Q: Could you please tell us when will PS VR be available in Mainland China?

A: PS VR’s launching in China needs hardware supply and software support, and that requires comprehensive preparation. At the moment we’re not ready, so I have to say I don’t know.
