Yoshida Shuhei: PS4 will never be compatible with former PlayStations

Yoshida Shuhei, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, started an “Ask Me Anything” activity on his French Twitter and answered many interesting questions including the main concern: will PS4 be compatible with former PlayStations .

Some of his answers are as follows:

1. Yoshida Shuhei wonders when the functions will be ready since PSN is changing its ID.  Sony is clear that their engineers are working on the new functions that players require. Sony will release any progress they make. But today, they have no idea about the new functions.

2. Sony’s engineers are currently working on the new function which notifies players when their friends log in the game. It is coming soon.

3.  Sony and its affiliates are developing more than 30, or maybe 40 or 50 games. (Yoshida Shuhei said, “I’m not sure about it” in the end, so the number may be larger. )

4. Whether PS4 will be compatible with PS3, Yoshida Shuhei gave a definite answer: no.

5. As for whether PS4 will be upgraded to support 4k output, Yoshida Shuhei explained that it is purely hypothetical. Since PS4 has x86 framework,  realize this upgrade is not difficult.

6. As RIME is under development, he persuaded players to wait and understand that they has a young engineer team.

7. When Yoshida Shuhei was asked about when Sony would release PS5, he said there would be no PS5. We can not tell whether Sony has not start to develop PS5 or they even do not have the plan to develop it.

8. Many twitter users told him that people love Sony’s conference on Paris Game Week.

9. Yoshida Shuhei likes Starwars: Battlefront, No Man’s Sky, and The Witness personally.

10. In the foreseeable future, Sony itself has no plan to develop any JRPG games. (another definite answer)

11. Yoshida Shuhei’s favorite game character is Dhaisim in Street Fighters 5. He often uses it when play Street Fighters 2
